NEW YORK.NEW YORK
This is the City

Yes. The City. The Only City with a right to call itself "The City" since it's been around the longest and is most definately the biggest on the North American Continent. Spanning Five Burroughs, Housing some of the Largest Buildings, it's a symbol of everything that America is, was, and ever will be. When the world ends and everything sinks into the sea, New York City will tell the Aliens who find our decaying corpses more then they ever wanted to know about Americans in General, the good-and the bad.

This is New York, and was therefore the subject of certain events to occur five years ago. These events will not be played up in any way, but it has left a lasting mark upon the populace. People in New York now are just trying to move on with their lives. The pieces have been picked up, it's back to business as usual.

...

OUR LADY OF YORK HOSPITAL

A somewhat minor New York Hospital with a bit of a notorious reputation, it's treated the most "converts", treating them like regular people instead of mutants. The staff is very aware that they have several individuals working for them who are classified as "Converted" or "Mutants", but they seem unconcerned, or unwilling, to change their policies. There's no danger of "catching" mutant abilities from someone who has them.

Interestingly Enough, Our Lady is on the forefront of pioneering a drugtest for Invincible. Working closely with Barton enterprises, they want to develop a way of testing for Invincible use. (There currently is none)

LOCALE LAW ENFORCEMENT
At one point one of the finest police departments in the country, a fighting force dedicated to the protection of the innocent

The Police of both New York and Los Angeles Play Major Roles in the community, not just protecting the peace, but keeping tabs on the Mutant community, however small it may be. Officers are sometimes asked to certain "Dangerous individuals" houses, under the guise of protecting innocent civilians. Is there something deeper at work here?

Epstein Books
A staple of Manhattan for 40 years, Epstein Books has returned to prominence as a competitor in the bookselling industry. What was once a loveable, but dingy store with no space to read has now become a spacious, comfortable, relaxing store with a widened selection of books. Even its section on world history, revered as one of New York’s best, has improved. Now there are more literary works in English and Spanish, and, thanks to increased sales, a new level containing more books and a café. Epstein Books is owned and operated by the brothers Keith and Pete Epstein, nephews of the store’s original owner.

SkyLand
Apartments
SkyLand Ranch Apartments is the product of a real estate deal, a geek, and a wannabe cowboy.

No, really. In 1997, Jim Catrelli returned to New York City after several years spent in Texas. His goal? To refurbish the "Heavenly Arms" Apartment Complex he'd inherited from his dead uncle. Sadly, Jim was easily impressionable, and planned an Apartment Complex with a vaguely Western theme, complete with sand-painted walls and Albequerque fixings in all the rooms.

The man was at a loss as far as names went, until he happened to be sitting in the attached Cafe. Two Geeks in town for a convention (-He assumed they were geeks based on the glasses and the "42" T-Shirts) were discussing past episodes of a certain TV show. Jim fell in love with the name "Skyland Ranch" and applied it to his apartment Complex, even though it was in the middle of Downtown Manhattan, and severely lacking in Sky.

Jim Catrelli's SkyLand Ranch Apartments, complete with realistic looking Coyote in the lobby, didn't take off. Forced to sell the place to Norton Real Estate, they dropped the Ranch in the Title and sold off most of the Out-West Art Deco. Norton Real Estate, A subsidary of Barton Industries, controls several properties in Manhattan, putting little to no effort in upgrading the rest of the rooms. Consequently, Visitors will probably not be impressed by the very traditional lobby, but might be taken aback by the Coyote Howls on the Soundsystem starting at 6:00 at night, (In addition to Native American Tribal Chants) And the fact that most rooms still contain cactuses and scenes of the old outwest painted on the walls.

The SkyLand Appartment Complex is state of the art falling into desrepair. The Interior Culture shock is nothing compared to the Gym filled with Equiptment that looks like it was last used by Rocky Balboa, the "Half Moon" Cafe with the Waiters and Waitresses who've probably working there since the building was first built in the 40s, and the "Picturesque Terrace" that gives residents a beautiful view of the buildings surrounding it.

These places are just signifigant. Or perhaps important. They're at the focalpoint of the public's gaze, and they're not moving anytime soon. That doesn't mean there aren't a host of other clubs, businesses, and other places of recreation in New York. See Something you'd like to build? have a yen to run a business? BARTON INDUSTRIES
Barton industries is not an Evil Corporation. It's not "Umbrella", it's not the Weyland Corporation, Hell, it's not even Sirius Cybernetics. Barton was founded by Micheal Barton ([livejournal.com profile] sishang) and a couple of his colleagues after a few years in the unsuccessful entertainment law business.

What was a probably "Pharmacutical" Corporation has become a Budding Multi-National Giant, just starting to grapple with other Forbes Giants. Micheal Barton is a shrewd businessman (Some say too shrewd), and he knows when to buy and when to invest, or at least knew enough to make an educated guess. They do alot of business with China, own a Real Estate Developer in New York City, and have a controlling interest in the Stocks of the First United Bank.

Recently, Barton's CEO has been making all the right moves, sending his company on a definite spiral upward. Now's the time to own Barton stock, because experts predict that it'll rank with companies like Coke, NBC, Isis, and Other Major Corporations by the year 2010..

Just what is Micheal Barton's Secret? And what's up with the sheer number of Ex-Defense Contractors working for Barton Industries? They're investing in everything, and while they're not yet the Umbrella Corporation, some people are speculating that they're coming close.

While the Company's based in New York City, it's staff divides it's time between New York (In Manhattan specifically) and Los Angeles California. Another odd move, but when you own two private jets, it's probable you can do whatever the hell you want.

EMPLOYEES[LOS ANGELES]

This, if anything, is a tale of two cities.

They've both been involved in the story since the beginning. And it seems only fair that they and their inhabitants see the end.

LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA
This is the City

That's how it would normally start, but this Los Angeles is anything but the noir playground that Joe Friday roamed in search of truth and Justice. It's-well-decidedly normal, or at least as normal as a city that houses both Hollywood, Burbank, and Orange County can be. Scenic, noisy, the second largest city in the United States. People come to Los Angeles for a taste of excitement and adventure.

Something they get plenty of. LA houses the largest population of "Converted" Individuals in the United States. Each one of these Individuals is kept on file at the locale Police Department, duly catalogued, organized, and filed away for view by the government. It's a requirement that citizens who convert notify their local hospital and authorities immeaditely. But is it for our safety? Or some darker purpose?

In recent years, LA has also housed more of a criminal element. Investigations into their activites are constantly stonewalled. They've built the red-light district into a veritable "Old Town", although even Frank Miller himself would fear to venture onto those streets.

Despite It's reputation though, it is simply a city. Nothing different, nothing destroyed, nothing that screams Sandwiched between San Francisco and San Diego on the El Camino Real Highway, it's the city. They say everyone ends up in LA someday. Chances are your characters probably will as well.

THE SHAKEN DRAGON
The Shaken Dragon, or "Shaking Dragon" as it's proudly called, is one of the more upscale Red Light District Clubs. Known to be classy, it's constantly frequented by thte A-List. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have a regular table, and Paris Hilton's been known to appear occasionally on the Dance Floor.

The Shaken Dragon prides itself on two things. It's dancers and it's hostesses. It's Dancers are works of art, it's Hostesses are something else entirely. Probably illegal in several different ways, the proprietors of the Shaken Dragon have no cause for complaint however, seeing as how the chief of police is a frequent customer.

The Shaken Dragon is also "The place" that people go to score. Ask anyone. Chances are their eyes will go shifty, they'll usher you aside-

Before pulling out a gram of "Dragon" or "Invincible" as it's more commonly known, and muttering, "How much you pay?"

PARKSIDE ESTATES
This park, unlike others before it, was built to cater to the super rich. Owned partially by Barton Industries, the Parkside estates boast comfort at affordable prices. Located in Malibu, each house is designed by the owner, with an extensive security system. Many people who keep summer homes here keep them in Parkside Estates.

Parkside, ironically, has no park. It does have a rather morbid view, overlooking one of the largest cemetaries in the city [livejournal.com profile] parkside_tombs.

First United Bank
A subsidiary of Barton Industries, First Union offers Free Checks for life and and cheapter checking for long-time members. It's quickly become a major banking chain, holding ground against banks like Washington Mutual and Bank of America.

Like quite a few major businesschains in this world, First United Bank is owned by Barton Industries. If you want to start a buisness, especially in Los Angeles, chances are you'll have to file with them. It's recently come under fire for hiring a converted bank manager.

Earth, September 18th, 2006: Mankind continued it's day-to-day business. They had chosen ordinary lives, and while the occasional war brought excitement, it was business as usual. Nothing changed, and nothing truly preturbed them. As long as the hot water continued to run, the TV continued to pick up episodes of LOST, and Comic Stores continued to issue copies of Runaways, God was in his heaven and all was right with the world.

Yet there were a few who did not sleep easily. Their ordinary lives were rapidly spiraling out of control. The ordinary heard about it occasionally. The man in Jersey who walked across water. The 5'2 petite secretary who beat up three grown muggers single-handedly, without an ounce of training. The Corporate CEO who discovered, after his second heart-attack-that he could see into the future. They were just stories right? Just Urban Legends. Besides. If there were Mutants, where the heck was Professor X? Where was Jean Gray?

Yet for those affected and suddenly ushered into the ranks of homo superior, they'd taken their first steps into a dark conspiracy the likes of which no human had ever encountered. Do they and their loved ones have what it takes to be-
Invincible?

At a loss for who to play? Trying to figure out what you can do to contribute to the plot? The answer's simple. PLAY A VILLIAN.

Note If you play a Triad Member, chances are you're going to become a mutant one way or another.

When the Game's gotten going, we'll start recruiting for US customs Agents outside the police department. It's part of the plot kids.

Rules:

--Because It's Polite--
1. The First Rule of [livejournal.com profile] wetheinvincible is that you do not talk about [livejournal.com profile] wetheinvincible

2. The Second Rule is to Ignore the First Completely.

3. Follow the Application Process as described. Send your completed Application to mods.invincible@gmail.com. Wait for Approval.

--The Nitty Gritty--

4. You may apply as many times as you like to the community for as many characters as you feel you can keep active. Too many good games have gone under because people took two many characters.

5. Each Player is Allowed to have 2 Mutant Characters in total. If you have Two Mutant characters, you're asked to have at least One Ordinary Human Being.

6. Yes. Your characters can die. If they get into a situation they can't get out of, chances are they'll end up in the big parkinglot in the sky. If they die, they'll go to Parkside Cemetary Automatically. Parkside Cemetary is run by the kindly old caretaker Mr. Flich (no relation to Argus Filch). If one of your mutant characters dies, the same thing happens. You can apply until you've filled your mutant quota.

--Violence. It's Signifigant--

7. Violence must be consentual and of an R-Rated Nature. Consentual Violence or sexual acts of an NC-17 nature (-I want this world to be as realistic as possible, considering that drugs are a major part of this-but c'mon). Please place under a "Not Work Safe Cut".

8. Attacking, Harassing, Harming, Threatening, Teasing, Taunting, or annoying other players is not tolerated and results in instant banning and your characters heading straight to Parkside.

9.The focus of this game should not be "Hooking up and making bebes." if you want that, please go look for a nice high school or celebrity game somewhere. This is about real character development and how people without Professor X and Wolverine leading them would deal with the idea of "I've/My close friend/loved one suddenly gained superpowers! OH NOES."

--FINAL WORD--

10. HAVE FUN. that's what this game is there for. I want a game that'll last and be shiny and cool. If you've joined it must mean you have a love of superheroes or TV shows like the ones that are coming out-and it must also mean that you're looking for a good OC game. hopefully, this can be it for you.

Still With Us?

Fantastic!

Follow these Simple steps!
1. Check out the application process.
2. Create a character Journal for use in the RP process.
3. Fill out an application and send it to mods.invincible@gmail.com.
4. Wait for approval!
theinvinciblemods: (Default)
If you're here, you weren't thrown by the open-letter to the mods and what the mods would like to get out of this rpg. This means you're ready to apply. Congratulations! I didn't choose this. It just sort of happened. I don't understand what's happening to me-if it's natural or if its...if it's something else. )

---

The kind of application we're NOT looking for. )

---

The Kind of Application We'd LIKE to see. )

---

Are we clear? Fabulous! If you're not sure your character is a Mary Sue/Marty Stu and therefore unacceptable for the game, run them through the Mary Sue Limitus Test. Keep in mind that execution can make the difference between a Sue and a compelling character. Writing your character in a realistic manner can prevent your character from being perceived as a Sue even if he or she ranks high on the limitus test.

Now that you've learned the do's and don'ts of the application process, send off an email to mods.invincible @ gmail.com, then follow these steps:

1. Request to join [livejournal.com profile] wetheinvincible, [livejournal.com profile] parkside_tombs and [livejournal.com profile] wetheordinary with your character's journal.

2. Wait for approval.

3. Start playing!
